The King Is Coming - In the Bible [Verses & Devotional]

"The King is Coming" by Red Rocks Worship is a powerful anthem that echoes the anticipation of Christ's return. It's a song that stirs our hearts and minds, reminding us of the glorious day when every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

The song's lyrics resonate with the words of Revelation 22:17, "The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let the one who hears say, 'Come!' Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life." This verse speaks of the Spirit and the church (the bride) longing for the return of Christ, just as the song's first verse does.

The chorus, "Prepare the way, the King is coming," echoes the prophetic call of John the Baptist in Matthew 3:3, "Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him." This call to prepare the way for the Lord is not just a historical reference, but a present and future directive for us as believers. We are to live our lives in a way that prepares for and anticipates the return of our King.

The song also beautifully captures the essence of Philippians 2:10-11, "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." This is the future reality that we, as believers, look forward to and the song captures this anticipation and certainty.

The lyrics, "The last, the first, The living Word, In glory shall return," remind us of Revelation 1:8, "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Jesus, the living Word, the first and the last, will return in glory, and we are to prepare the way for Him.

As we listen to this song and reflect on these scriptures, we are reminded of the hope we have in Christ's return. We are encouraged to live our lives in anticipation of this glorious day, preparing the way for our King.

So, here's a thought to ponder: How are we preparing the way for the King in our daily lives? Are we living in a way that anticipates His return? Are we sharing the hope we have in Christ with others? Let's take some time to reflect on these questions and ask God to guide us as we prepare the way for our King.
