Intro

Verse 1

You know I had my doubts
I thought the fire went out
But the old winds are blowing,
blowing again
You know I lost my way
And I’m sure I will again someday
But there’s a whisper calling,
calling again

Chorus 1

This is the sound of a
child coming home
Hallelujah
This is the song of a
welcome prodigal
Hallelujah
I thought I was too far gone
But You always leave the light on
Praise God, Praise God,
Praise God
I’m coming home

Verse 2

Thought I was miles away
Somehow my vision changed
You’ve been with me,
with me all along
Took me a long, long time
To finally realize
You never ever, ever, ever
shut the door

Chorus 1

This is the sound of a
child coming home
Hallelujah
This is the song of a
welcome prodigal
Hallelujah
I thought I was too far gone
But You always leave the light on
Praise God, Praise God,
Praise God
I’m coming home

Bridge 1

For those who are afraid to come
There is no fear in perfect love
For those who don’t know
where to start
He always meets us where we are
For those with just a little faith
A little faith is all it takes
He’s calling, He’s calling

Bridge 2

If you got caught up in
religion’s game
Then let Him show you the real thing
For the skeptic still in
search of truth
He’ll bring that child out of you
What are you still waiting for
You’re standing at an open door
He’s calling, He’s calling

Chorus 2

This is the sound of a child
coming home
Hallelujah
This is the song of a
welcome prodigal
Hallelujah

Chorus 1

This is the sound of a
child coming home
Hallelujah
This is the song of a
welcome prodigal
Hallelujah
I thought I was too far gone
But You always leave the light on
Praise God, Praise God,
Praise God

Prodigals - In the Bible [Verses & Devotional]

In the song Prodigals by North Point Worship, we are reminded of the unconditional love of our Father in Heaven. We are all prodigals, running away from Him, broken and undone, desperate and weary. But no matter how far we run, He is always there, waiting with open arms to welcome us home.

This is beautifully illustrated in the Bible in the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32). In this parable, a son leaves his father and squanders his inheritance. When he returns, his father welcomes him home with open arms and celebrates his return. This is a beautiful reminder of the love of our Father in Heaven. No matter how far we run, He is always there, waiting to welcome us home.

We are reminded of this in the lyrics of the song: “We come running, we come running to the arms of a Father who loves us.” This is a beautiful reminder of the love of our Father in Heaven. No matter how far we run, He is always there, waiting to welcome us home.

We can also find comfort in the words of Romans 8:38-39: “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

No matter how far we run, no matter how broken we are, no matter how desperate we are, God’s love is always there, waiting to welcome us home. We can take comfort in the knowledge that no matter what, God’s love will never fail us.

So let us come running, running to the arms of a Father who loves us. Let us come running, running to the arms of a Father who loves us.
