Lay Me Down

In the song “Lay Me Down” by Chris Tomlin, we are reminded of the importance of surrendering our lives to God. The lyrics “I lay me down, I'm not my own, I belong to You alone” remind us of the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:24-25, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” When we lay down our lives and surrender to God, we find true life and joy. 

The chorus of the song also reminds us of the importance of trusting in God and His will for our lives. The lyrics “Hand on my heart this much is true, there's no life apart from You” remind us of the words of Jesus in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” When we trust in God and abide in Him, we can bear much fruit and live a life of purpose and joy. 

The bridge of the song reminds us of the importance of submitting to God’s will for our lives. The lyrics “It will be my joy to say, Your will, Your way” remind us of the words of Jesus in Matthew 26:39, “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” When we submit to God’s will for our lives, we can experience true joy and peace.
