Waterfall

In the song “Waterfall” by Chris Tomlin, we are reminded of the deep and powerful love of God. The lyrics express a longing for God and a desire to move when He moves. This longing is echoed in Psalm 42:1-2 which says, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (NIV). We can relate to this longing for God and the desire to be close to Him. 

The chorus of the song speaks of God’s love being like a waterfall, running wild and free. This imagery is found in Isaiah 43:2 which says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” (NIV). This verse speaks of God’s protection and presence in our lives, even in the midst of difficult times. His love is like a waterfall, running wild and free, and it never changes. 

The bridge of the song speaks of God’s grace and mercy, which is like a flood that covers us. This is echoed in Psalm 103:12 which says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (NIV). We can be thankful for the grace and mercy of God that covers us and never changes.
